Updates
- Potential Monday ImpactIf we do indeed get double digit inches of snow on Sunday, please prepare yourself for snow removal across campus, including in the parking lot and back alley, to take place into Monday and potentially Tuesday. A high impact storm with potential for high wind, will take a while to clean up. If you arrive… Read more: Potential Monday Impact
- Changing Temps, Exterior Doors, and Building SecurityHappy Friday Everyone, Facilities would like to call to your attention that as outside temperatures fluctuate, so do our buildings’ doors and doorframes. This can cause latches and door closers to behave unexpectedly. It’s commonplace for Facilities Managers to make lots of minor adjustments to door hardware during periods of temperature shift (the so-called “shoulder… Read more: Changing Temps, Exterior Doors, and Building Security
Issue Reporting
For highly urgent Facilities issues please call the Facilities Department at 612-767-0544. Issues qualifying as “highly urgent” include:
- Flooding
- Major equipment or utility service breakdown
- Structural compromise
- Inability to secure a building
For all other issues and requests, please submit a Facilites Request. Please be as detailed as you can; it’s especially helpful to include photos. Even if your ask isn’t exactly a request, please submit it through the Request Portal anyway!
Lastly, you may contact us at [email protected]. We’d much prefer you to submit a request through the Request portal, but an email will also be responded too.
Building Access & Alarm System
Building access is given via a few different methods:
- a physical (or multiple) key(s)
- a tap card
- access to the Avigilon Alta mobile app
The tap card and mobile app will work at any door reader throughout the building. You square “Medeco” key will allow you into the exterior front doors and exterior rear stairwell.
In addition to these means of access, you will receive an alarm code. This alarm code is for activating or deactivating the building security alarm at either the front or rear entrance to the building. If you are the to leave for the day, use the (last) CALLS procedure as a reminder of your duties to close and alarm the building.
Broken key? App issues? Tap card not working?
Submit a Facilites Request and we’ll work to get your issue resolved.
Package Delivery
We monitor the front doorbell Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 4:00pm with the intent of allowing deliveries into the building. If you have an important delivery coming, either ensure that you have notified the shipping company of our hours or arrange to meet the delivery driver directly. Packages will be left in the lobby for collection at your convenience. If you have a larger delivery with dock height requirements, please submit a Facilites Request with as much detail as possible, and we can arrange for delivery to the loading dock behind the building.
Guests
The Facilities department does not greet and usher guests into the building. If you have having guests come to the Opera Center, please make arrangements personally or within your department to ensure the guests have access to the building. If they are coming on a recurring basis, please submit a Facilities Request and ask for access to be arranged.
Building security is the responsibility of everyone at the Opera. Please help us keep a safe environment.
Cleaning | Trash, Recycling, and Compost
Luis, our custodian from Common Good Cleaning, is in the Opera Center Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings. He cleans the common areas of the building, wipes down high touch surfaces, and takes out the trash. He does not enter private offices, cubicles, or rehearsal rooms. Galo, another custodian, comes in on Tuesday evenings to do specific project cleaning.
When your trash and or recycling is ready to be emptied, please place it outside of your cubicle or office where our custodians can easily find it.
In addition to trash and recycling, there are several compost bins throughout the building. You can review what is and isn’t compost in this flyer. Remember, “When it doubt, throw it out”.
If you need your floor vacuumed, there are several vacuums throughout the building, including in storage room 330 (by Jen’s office).
Have more trash than can fit in a can? Submit a Facilities Request and we’ll help get you sorted.
